Welcome to Wifi Extreme
Specialising in long distance outdoor wireless networking using 802.11 products in the class licence 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands. Our emphasis is on reliability, simplicity and modularised kits.
We carry only items that we have tested and operated in REAL long distance links. Our miniPCI wireless modules come from manufacturers who understand the needs of outdoor wireless. We highly recommend Ubiquiti products for carrier grade outdoor wireless performance and reliability. For the more cost conscious we also carry Senao modules.
Similarly we consider the antennas we supply extremely suited to outdoor conditions. We have used and recommend all of them.
For your next outdoor wireless project we carry MikroTik Routerboards or PC Engines Alix boards. These are very small form factor Single Board Computers (SBC) with one or more miniPCI slots. They are full-fledged computers on a single PCB with CPU, memory, storage, networking and serial console and are controlled by either a proprietary operating system, or GNU/Linux or any other OS that supports their architecture. We sell Routerboards pre-loaded with your choice of RouterOS or GNU/Linux. For more information see the Routerboard Support Page. Alix boards are a more flexible variant and supports other operating systems including FreeBSD.
Our modular kits can help you build any network structure for an outdoor wireless network.
We proudly support Community Wireless Networking, a grass-roots movement to build community operated wide area networks using the low-cost wireless equipment we supply. In South Australia we support a community wireless networking group called Air-Stream Wireless Inc. All members of Air-Stream receive a 10-20% discount on our items.
If you are setting up an outdoor connection for the first time, start with our Link Calculator for a theoretical introduction. If you are setting up a wide area network, see our Outdoor Wireless Information Page for some suggestions.
One of the best sources of support is a community wireless networking organisation, there is usually one found in every capital city and large town. South Australians should check out Air-Stream.
Good luck in your next wireless project!
